St Georges Day

Come and celebrate St George s Day in Downham Market – 23rd April from 11am

Family fun will be in abundance thisDSCN0174.jpg 23rd April when Downham Market celebrates St Georges Day in the town centre.
The newly formed Retailers Group, made up of businesses from the town will be offering a host of fun activities including a climbing wall, face painters, roundabouts and refreshments, plus music and a Morris Dancing display. Member of the Retail Group, Maureen Hibling commented “We hope that the town will join us in celebrating and enjoying the activities organised for all, it looks like it’s going to be a great day!”

There will be a special guest appearance from KLFM DJ Simon Rowe as St George who will be wandering the town asking people for help to find the Dragon, local reporter David Blackmore from the EDP.

The town, which has a long history of marking the date, will again be putting on its red and white ‘St George’ themed shop window-dressing display and this year, Downham Market residents are also invited to get involved by taking part in a St George’s day theme house decorating competition.

Timetable of events:

10.00 am Day starts with stalls and rides/wall opening
10.45/11.00 St George and Dragon battle commences
11.00 DADS pre-battle performance in the town square
11.30 Battle finish
11.45-12.15 First Morris dance
13:00-13.30 Second Morris dance
15.00 Stalls and Rides close. we hope to see you there!
