People in Downham Market will be able to have their say this Friday, 5th October, on the borough council s proposals to press ahead with a new technology which could lead to most of the borough s general waste being recycled. The ground-breaking technology, which has been developed by consortium Material Works, processes general waste from black bins into an inert, safe, strong and long-lasting extruded material which can be used for hard landscaping, construction, pallets and packaging. Negotiations are currently ongoing between the borough council and Material Works and it is anticipated that the borough council s cabinet members will be asked to make a decision regarding proceeding with the contract later next month. In the meantime, to help inform that decision, the borough council is seeking feedback from local people about the proposal. Cllr Brian Long, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “The technology that has been developed by Material Works represents a major change to the way that waste can be handled. It s environmentally friendly, affordable, sustainable and could put West Norfolk at the very forefront of recycling. We are interested to know what local people think and hope they will get involved either by responding to our survey, should they receive a call, or by coming along to one of our drop in sessions or our open meeting.” How to Get Involved:
| Survey A telephone survey of around 1,000 is currently taking place and will continue until the middle of October. The independent company undertaking the survey is MEL Research.
