The wreaths and tributes laid at Downham Market War Memorial on Monday 4th August to commemorate the beginning of “The Great War” have been carefully removed to safety, as the work on cleaning and refurbishing the Memorial has begun.
Funding for the project comes from the Town Council alongside a grant from the Norfolk Community Foundation. The Memorial is being cleaned and then, after a period for drying and settling, the repainting of the lettering and crests will take place.
The photographs show the contractors (H Brett and Son of Watton) beginning the cleaning process.
