Local Baton Twirlers to Represent East Anglia in National Competition

The Downham Market Marquettes, a local troupe of baton twirlers and cheerleaders, enjoyed success at the British Baton Twirling Sports Association (BBTSA) Area Competition last month.

Combining twirling skills with dance and gymnastics, Baton Twirling is a competitive sport with troupes all over the country.

All members of the troupes who took part received medals in at least one of the sections they entered, which enables them to go on to the National Competition where they will be representing East Anglia.

Khloe and Caileigh (pictured below) are two of the troupe members who will be going to the BBTSA British Open Competition in May where they will be taking part in the solo and pairs sections.

The Marquettes Always Welcome New Members and Beginners

The Marquettes formed in February 1999 when a young baton twirler persuaded her parents and aunt to form their own troupe. Fourteen years later and the group is still going strong and accepting new members.

Troupe members train in both Baton Twirling and Cheerleading, the latter being a fast paced sport combining dance, gymnastics and stunting to produce amazing displays. Members are able to train in one or both sports if they wish.

New members don’t need to have had any dancing experience as beginners are very welcome!
