Borough Council Elizabeth Nockolds, has today made a Pledge to run 12 Park Runs this Olympic year and is hoping that everyone taking part in this year s Bespak Grand East Anglia Run which will also make a Pledge.
Pledge 2012 is an Active Norfolk initiative aiming to get 2012 people in Norfolk living a more healthy and active lifestyle before the Olympic opening ceremony on the 27 July.
On making her pledge, Cllr Nockolds said: “I try to keep fit and active by cycling to work and doing the occasional run. I wanted to make a Pledge 2012, but needed to be sure it was something I was able to achieve. I m confident that I will be able to do at least one Park Run each month, so I thought it s an achievable goal and would mean that I m running on a more regular basis.”
To encourage more people to make a Pledge 2012, organisers of the Bespak Grand East Anglia Run are putting information about Pledge 2012 into every goody bag.
Cllr Nockolds added: “There s still plenty of time to enter the Bespak Grand East Anglia Run, so people could even make that their Pledge!”
Jodie McGill, from Active Norfolk, said: “Anybody can make a pledge and it can be anything from drinking more water, running a marathon, eating 5 a day or cycling to work. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do, everyone can improve their fitness and wellbeing through being more active and eating more healthily.
“With only 123 days left until the Olympic Games land on our doorstep we are over half way to reaching the 2012 target with 1196 pledges already made. The Bespak Grand East Anglia Run takes place on Sunday 6 May, 2011. The Bespak GEAR is a UKA and BARR Gold-Graded event. The cost of entry is £17 for affiliated runners and £19 for unaffiliated runners. To enter, runners must be aged 15 or over on race day. The Bespak Mini GEAR is open to anyone over 6 years of age (under 8s must be accompanied by an adult). The cost of entry for Bespak Mini GEAR is £6.00 for adults, £5.00 for under 16s and £4.00 for under 8s.
There are generous cash prizes for Bespak GEAR category winners and everyone taking part will receive a quality medal and goody bag.
