Downham Market Rotary is inviting residents to a charity cream tea on Sunday, 18 October, to raise funds for a local organisation supporting people living with dementia and their families.
The event will take place from 2pm–4pm at Downham Market Methodist Church Hall on Paradise Road, with tickets priced at £12.50 per person.
All funds raised will support Downham Market Dementia Cafe, which provides activities, companionship and practical assistance to people affected by dementia.
Speaking to downhamweb, Robert Waring from Downham Market Rotary explained why the club had chosen to support the charity.
“We are a small enthusiastic and friendly club who are passionate to help local good causes,” he said.
Waring praised the work of the Dementia Cafe and the support it provides to people living with dementia, as well as their friends and families.
“We strive to help improve the lives of all those in the immediate vicinity of Downham Market who struggle in whatever way,” he added.
Helping local families
Downham Market Dementia Cafe has been operating for several years, offering weekly activities at the Methodist Church and organising trips to local places of interest.
The activities aim to help people living with dementia and their families maintain social connections and enjoy shared experiences.
The charity also has a project manager who can provide support following an early diagnosis or at a later stage of the condition.
According to Waring, the support can be tailored to individual needs through discussions with those affected and their families.
“Downham Market Dementia Cafe needs every help it can get and we believe Downham Rotary should and does assist in a very practical way,” he said.
