Water Festival 2012

We hope everyone who attended the Downham Market Water Festival & Dragon Boat racing had a great time!

The 6th annual Downham Market Water Festival will returned to the Great Ouse Relief Channel next to the Hythe Bridge this year for a fun packed day of events. Click here to read what was happening…

The main feature of the occasion is a knockout dragon boat racing competition, featuring crews from local clubs, businesses, pubs and sports teams, all hoping to claim victory.

The festival is absolutely free for spectators and promises to be a great day for any family, who can enjoy lots of activities on the riverbank, including stalls, arena events, a fun fair, children’s activities, lots of amazing food vendors, craft and charity stalls and of course the long-awaited adrenaline pumping Dragon Boat races.   Thus far, 12 teams have confirmed their place in the Dragon Boat racing competition at the festival which will begin on August 5th (Sunday). Sarah Mawby, the town council’s events co-ordinator, said a record number of 50 application forms have additionally been sent out – thanks mainly to the festival’s new Facebook and Twitter accounts (Be sure to like and follow the pages to keep up to date with all of the latest event plans, take part in discussions about what YOU want to see at the event and perhaps even enter some competitions to win special prizes!). The cost to each team will remain the same as last year – £150 per boat. The teams can be groups from businesses, pubs, clubs or societies or just a group of friends, whatever floats your boat!
If you would like to enter your team please contact Sarah Mawby at Downham Market Town Council offices Tel: 01366 387770 or email [email protected] for a booking form.Whilst the last Water Festival was slightly over-cast we have high hopes for this years weather being much brighter!
