Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile 2012 and other Sporty events!

The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile is coming to town on Sunday 25th March 2012, and needs local people to come together and show their support by entering now at www.sportrelief.com.

The Downham Market Mile will take place on the Howdale Community Field and is set to be an incredible event. Entrants don’t have to be sporty to take part, but can choose to complete 1, 3 or 6 miles knowing that all the money raised will help to change the lives of people living unimaginably tough livesright here on our doorstep, across the rest of the UK and in some the world’s poorest countries.

Sarah Mawby, Events Coordinator for Downham Market Town Council, said: “The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in Downham Market is here and it’s your time to shine. From teeny-tots with their mums and dads, to super sprinters up against the clock there’s something for everyone on the big day.

This is the first Sainsbury’s SportRelief Mile in Downham Market and it forms part of the town’s events calendar in celebration of the London 2012 Olympics. We’re looking to get as many people as possible involved in what looks set to be an incredible event!”

Other events are in the planning stages and include a fun athletics day in May, Treasure Hunt cycle ride in July and a Sporting Heroes Awards evening in September. Staging these events in Downham Market will mean that the whole town can benefit from getting active and healthy and we hope that they will not be a one off but be a spring-board for bigger and better events in 2013 and beyond.

Active Norfolk and the West Norfolk Borough Council Lets Get Active Campaign are supporting Downham Market with organising these events.

Cllr Elizabeth Nockolds was on the judging panel for the flag design and stated ‘I feel that the celebrations in Downham Market will be a great success during such an important and exciting year and am pleased that the Boroughs ‘’Lets Get Active’’ campaign will be able to help Downham Market residents get the most from their events.

This is a borough wide campaign – year long campaign celebrating sport in West Norfolk in 2012. You can find out more at www.letsgetactive.org.uk. Looking at the events list for Downham Market there really are opportunities for everyone to take part’.
