Rock Choir comes to Downham Market

logoDo you sing in the shower or croon along to the car radio, yet have never had the confidence or opportunity to take it any further? Now you can! Singing sensation Rock Choir is opening in Downham Market on Tuesday mornings from 10:30am to midday at Downham Town Hall. Rock Choir Leader Mike Tandy is inviting anyone interested in joining to try a free 90-minute taster session at their nearest local venue. Rock Choir will also be opening in Wisbech, Peterborough, Hunstanton and King’s Lynn.

“Rock Choir is very different to the more traditional choirs and choral societies,” explains Mike. “We sing our own, special arrangements of feel good chart and pop songs. You don’t have to read music and there are no auditions. We get invited to perform at some really exciting events and raise lots of money for charity. In 2012 alone we helped raise over £1 million”.

Mike is no stranger to performing in public. He spent many years working as a Musical Director on cruise ships, and has performed around the world with artists such a Jamie Cullum. Before joining Rock Choir he was Musical Director for the Kings Lynn Operatic Society.

Rock Choir is the UK’s largest and most popular contemporary choir, with more than 16,000 members in over 250 local communities. It was started in 2005, by award-winning singer and musician Caroline Redman Lusher, who set out to create a modern, contemporary choir for adults and teenagers who love to sing.

Rock Choir welcomes everyone, and its uplifting ethos of fun, friendship and community spirit is a big part of its attraction. Achievements include releasing two top twenty albums, breaking three Guinness World Records, being the subject of the 3-part ITV1 documentary ‘The Choir That Rocks’, and performing at hundreds of local and national events, including sell-out shows at iconic venues such as The 02, Wembley Arena and The Royal Albert Hall.

“It’s amazing that most people who come along to try out Rock Choir don’t necessarily think they are very good singers at all,” says Mike. “We firmly believe anyone can sing, and the beautiful rich sound the choir makes after just a few rehearsals is incredible. As well as giving people the chance to reawaken their love of singing, being in Rock Choir is a great way to meet new people and enjoy some ‘me’ time each week. We’ve got lots of exciting performances in the pipeline too!”
