One weekend in March will prove to be an exciting time in Downham Market

One weekend in March will prove to be an exciting time in Downham Market this year…
Just last year the country reminded us that the Royal British Legion was founded nationally, 90 years ago.

Downham Market were not far behind, – in March 1922 (barely 6 months later) the Local Branch was founded and the Town Council gave the organisation some land (close to the present site of our Town War memorial). Ever since we have had significant Remembrance Sunday services to lay wreaths of poppies at the base, and everyone in Downham knows we have the largest poppy collection monies for a Town our size. The RBL in Downham is held in high regard.

This year (this month to be exact!) the local RBL are to hold a weekend of celebration for our very own 90th anniversary! And you are invited! – On Saturday 24th March a celebratory Dinner in the Town hall is being held (£17.50 per head).
Doors open at 6pm for a reception and a welcoming glass of wine, followed by a 3 course
meal at 7pm. Our important guest is the Group Captain of RAF Marham, who has been
asked to say a few words, there will be other significant guests attending.
For this joyous occasion numbers are limited to 150 so if you would like to attend we are urging you to contact as soon as possible.

To book your ticket Mr Cross can be reached on 01366 387660

A bar will be available for you to purchase extra drinks. And no doubt a worthwhile raffle
will be run to cover the extra costs.

Then on Sunday 25th March a celebratory Parade from the Town Hall car park will start at 1:45prompt… The Town’s organisations will be invited to march with a contingency from RAF Marham and a marching ATC band from Wisbech, together with a significant number of Standards from around the county.

Further information on these events can be found on our Events Calander within the site, please click here to find out more.
