Downham Youth Centre is on lookout for Volunteer Drivers

08 DYC Logo by ElliotDownham Youth Centre is searching for volunteers to drive their minibus.

Centre Manager Ali Rigby said “In the run up to the Christmas holidays, we are aware that there is less accessibility to youth services for young people, and the minibus fulfils one of our aims of the project by helping youth to overcome these barriers to activity in the West Norfolk area.”

Working in Downham Market and the surrounding area, the youth centre, which is based at the old Clack Close Primary School (and is part of the S.W.A.N. Youth Opportunities Project), is looking for volunteers who are specifically over 25, with a clean driving licence that would be happy driving the bus to the underlying villages including Southery, Nordelph and Outwell but also to Kings Lynn.

“By providing access to young people, we can offer them the targeted sessions they require including CV writing, college and job application support and developing on from this, opportunities to gain qualifications including Sports Leaders UK training” said Ali. “We know that everyone is busy these days, but if you can give just an hour a month, this can help us greatly! We are excited at the prospect of being able to offer transport, as often those young people most in need are the ones who aren’t able to access our youth provision!”

The Centre, which has been running since February, aims to build up a database of drivers who would be happy to be called on an ad hoc basis and drive for us every once in a while.

If you are interested in helping, the centre can be contacted on 01366 386259 or email [email protected]
