Local company C&J Electrical become a sponsor of ‘blood bikes’
‘SERV’ (Service by Emergency Rider Volunteer) is a group operated by Blood bikes. SERV offers emergency delivery of blood to hospitals, SERV is a registered charity and non-profitable organisation, they cover over 15 counties over the South, East & Midlands. Blood Bikes have been established in the United Kingdom for more than 40 years, originally organised in Stevenage when Des Gibbons established a youth community action group named Freewheelers to encourage young bikers to use their riding skills to provide a fast and reliable transport service to local hospitals.
Since then, new ‘Blood bike-groups’ have been setup all across the United Kingdom, and now Norfolk is lucky enough to have their very own coverage of Blood bikes. As well as transport to hospitals, riders would complete such tasks like delivering letters to doctors surgeries and collect spare breast milk from nursing mothers to take to a special care baby unit at the local maternity hospital.
SERV Started their operations in Norfolk last month on 30th September. Downhamweb had the chance to pop down to C&J who are proudly sponsoring SERV and see the new Blood Bikes, as well as talk to some of the volunteer riders:
C&J Electricals stood proudly with the SERV Gang.SERV Among other Blood Bike groups provides a service that has saved many lives, yet receives no government funding.
