Well done Jenny!

Downhamweb is very pleased to report that Old Town ward councillor Jenny Groom has successfully taken part in the Royal British Legion Pedal to Paris 2011. The 285-mile journey started from Greenwich Park, in London, on Thursday, September 1 and ended in Paris on Sunday, September 4. The charity hopes the event will raise £500,000. Jenny is often seen whizzing through the town on her trusty bike but really had to train hard to prepare for the marathon charity bike challenge. Speaking to Downhamweb, she said: “I had a fantastic time. It really was quite an incredible experience and I got to meet so many wonderful people. “There were plenty of highlights, but for me the most memorable moment was being escorted up the Champs Elysée to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.” It is the 16th year the Royal British Legion, which is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, has organised the four-day challenge. Jenny has so far raised about £1,300 for the Royal British Legion but hopes to raise £2,000. The funds will go towards projects such as the Royal British Legion Battle Back Centre, a national centre of excellence for adventurous training and adaptive sports to aid the recovery of injured troops.
