Downham Market is a small but friendly market town which lies on the outskirts of the Fens, in Norfolk.
With an exciting history to explore, Downham Market has many beautiful buildings to view, and boasts plenty of interesting things see, including local shops and scenery.
Downham Market was originally a Saxon town and has many historic buildings to visit such as the Town Hall, St Edmunds Church and not forgetting the Town Clock, an interesting and attractive centrepiece in the heart of the town, which overlooks the market square.
The black and white clock was erected in 1878, presented to the town by James Scott esq. and is an octagonal shape, with a rectangular clock chamber topped off with a weather vane.
Every Friday and Saturday, there is a popular market held in the Town Hall car park where you'll find loads of local traders selling their produce and wares. From fruit and veg, to fresh fish, meat, eggs, and a great sweetie stall or even a stand of shoes and slippers, there's something for everyone!!
